Time To Make Cuts

The Yankees had spring training to send down the prospects and rid themselves of the dead wood on the roster. Now after 22 games it has come time to start changing personnel to improve the club in various ways.

The obvious move is to remove Kyle Farnsworth and LaTroy Hawkins from the roster. There is absolutely no way they can help this team, even if it eating innings in winning or losing blowouts, but they can’t even eat the innings in blowout leads as cleary displayed the past two nights in Chicago.

Who cares if it’s wasting $8+ million between the two? I am sure the Yankees will have no problem making that money back in hot dog sales during the first game back on the next home stand.

Every year the Yankees try to find a lefty specialist to come out of the pen and every year they waste a roster spot by doing so. This year that wasted spot happens to be Billy Traber and while he might have a devastating hook (sometimes), he hasn’t done an impressive enough job to hold a spot on the roster.

There is no chance that Jason Giambi gets the boot from the club, so it is hard to beat up on him anymore as it appears at least for the time being that Joe Girardi is going to keep running him out there everyday to boot another ball or ground out into the shift.

There are too many young arms with strong potential in the minors for the Yankees to keep sending out the goof troop (Hawkins, Farnsworth, and sometimes Traber: to try to finish off games. Ross Ohlendorf is being wasted as the mopup man for Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy as he should be used to compliment Brian Bruney before it is time to hand the ball to Joba Chamberlain or Mariano Rivera.

Change needs to be made to this club and now is the time to do it.
